Interesting Painting Style

Hey guys - I just wanted to share with you an artist whose work I find very intriguing, Rich Pellegrino.  Below I've posted some of his work.  His use of color and shape is unique, and can even make the painting look odd or unsettling; however, since we are learning about color, form and shape, I thought I'd share these. 

A design that intrigued me

Here is a drawing that impact me significantly especially after having gone through project 1. The composition of this picture with the use of organic shapes make this design feel alive. The use of black and surrounding white space gives the design depth. The direction of the way the black spots are splatter indicate a flow in action of what the artist might have intended it to look like.

Defining Design

Conveyed in the assembling of our project is our understanding of the definition of design. In the arrangement of shapes, colors, and text, our understanding of design is an executed plan with an intended purpose.

Design Thesis by Kevin Kim and Matthew Torres:

We made a paper cube that collectively forms the word: design. We each had to design 3 different sides of the cube in which Kevin focused on simple yet formal letters while Matthew created different types of calligraphy for each of his letter that becomes balanced as a whole.

Inspiring Sketchbook

I really love this Ukrainian painter's sketchbook (I wish I knew their name!). The diversity of the content struck me. I think it has a great mix of scrapbooking and idea-making in both images and words. My favorites are the pages with the various kettles, as well has the spread with the buttons and skeletons.

Design Definition

This poster is meant to convey a process of making form meeting function. The process of creating typography is shown as a gradient of letters against a grid while the bold red color of design is meant to present an impact on visual senses.
